Fred Meyer After-Thanksgiving Sale — 1990

Though it existed within the retail industry before then, the term “Black Friday” was not used openly until sometime in the 2000s. Before then, these kind of events were called “After-Thanksgiving Sales.”

This is from a recording of the Simpsons episode “Bart Vs. Thanksgiving” — but from Eugene. Apparently that’s far enough away for a completely different supermarket to exist, that literally called itself “Grocery Cart.”
