There’s a wild story behind this one. It’s a donation, but it could have been a larger one. By that I mean I once estimated Dad’s collection at over 10,000 tapes — but it could have been over twice that.

In 2017 a post went up on Craigslist from a man in Hillsboro who had been recording shows all his life, just like Dad, and was now looking for a new home for them. His estimation was 24,000. The post went viral and attracted a lot of attention from archivists and tape collectors. He received many offers, but ended up choosing a guy who lived in Beaverton and had a lot of storage space. That guy had also heard of this website and was enthusiastic about the prospect of adding clips to it. So was I.

He digitized one tape. Then he disappeared.

No one has heard from him or been able to contact him since November 2017. Whether he witnessed a murder and had to go into Witness Protection, or The Doctor warped into his living room and chose him as his next companion, who knows. The situation is, out of 24,000 VHSes, all I can bring you is this.

It will remain one of the great mysteries of our age.
