Mt. St. Helens: The Full Bosom

One of the earliest video clips ever uploaded here, and one of the most famous, is where KATU news reporter Pat Wilkins is talking about Mt. St. Helens and gives us this tortured metaphor comparing it to a naked breast. When The Oregonian covered the existence of the FPO site they made sure to single out this clip specifically, because why wouldn’t they?

On this, the 45th anniversary of the eruption, it feels apt to present, for the first time, the entire report it came from. Wilkins has a few more metaphors for the mountain, most of them weird, but none as striking as that first one. Still, it’s an interesting historical piece, considering the incident was only a year old at the time.
