Fox Kids Club — KPDX 1990

One of the all-time greatest tapes I’ve found in recent history is one that had a Super Mario Super Show episode on it (on Zelda day!) It also had this very familiar promo for the Fox Kids Club. This aired every DAY for at least a YEAR. If you were alive then, and lived in Portland, you are familiar with this already.

You might also be familiar with it even if you didn’t live in Portland. Fox Kids would not begin airing officially until the fall of 1990 (this was recorded January 1990). They sent out this package to Fox affiliates so they could pretend their bunch of syndicated kiddie shows was Fox’s block. The newsletter shown here would turn into Totally Kids. Stations throughout America had their own spin on the Fox Kids Club, with local hosts and region-specific contests. KPDX took the most generic route and simply used the default ad.
