Crew 32 — KWBP November 1997

This is a dead art, but once upon a time when kids’ TV shows appeared on network TV, it was up to the affiliate to fill one or two minutes worth of time every hour with whatever they could come up with. That meant local hosts, bad acting, and cheesy effects that clashed violently with the slick ads provided by the network.

KRCW (then KWBP) didn’t really do anything with the free time provided by Kids WB until the fall of 1997, when the “Crew 32” campaigh was launched. A casting call for kids was held at a local shopping mall, and afterward, “Casey,” “Rebecca” and “Kenny” became the faces you’d see floating around garish swirly backdrops in between Pinky and the Brain episodes. Trippy stuff.
