The Fox Box — February 2000

In the year 2000 and 2000 alone Fox 49 set up kiosks throughout Portland called “The Fox Box” (completely unrelated to the Saturday Morning programming block of the same name 4Kids would put on the network two years later). You get the basic idea here — you push a button and record a short video of yourself, and maybe the station will play it.

Fox Box promos are hard to find. There was even a half-hour special of nothing but people’s Fox Box messages, which I do not have. Such a phenomenon only happened once, and thanks to the rise of smartphones, will never happen again.
