GENERAL INFORMATION FAQ

WHAT THINGS DO YOU PRINT?
BANG is an Entertainment Paper. We will print the most entertaining material we receive. Beyond that, and a general rule of family-friendliness, anything should go.

HOW MUCH DO YOU PAY?
We offer $25 for every page you contribute to BANG. We also put the bios of everybody we print at the end of their story, along with as much contact info as they allow. Then BANG is spread all over Portland, to thousands of eyeballs. Right now we're more in the business of offering exposure than money.

WILL YOU OWN MY MATERIAL/CHARACTERS?
No way! Like we said, BANG is about talent, and hopefully people looking for talent will read BANG too. BANG is here to help you get noticed. When we pay you, we are paying for the permission to print your work in BANG, not the copyright to the work itself. After your piece runs in BANG and the issue is out of circulation you are free to use it elsewhere.

IS IT OKAY IF MY MATERIAL IS ALREADY ON THE WEB?
If you own it, then chances are, it is. We live in the 21st century just like you. We have no problems with printing something that already exists on the Web and you don't have to take it down, either. The only reason it wouldn't be okay would be if you are creating web content UNDER CONTRACT for someone else. If we print your work and THEN we find out we accidentally broke the law, we'll be in trouble and YOU will be in EVEN BIGGER TROUBLE.

Also: we've heard of instances where people sent their work to everybody in town, and more than one person bought the submission and printed it, and the artist didn't tell either of them, thinking it was all right. Legally, that is very not all right, and has the potential to get you blacklisted from the industry.

ARE YOU HIRING?
We are currently in need of a sales representative. How are you with sales? Contact us if you feel you can handle it. Note that this would be a commission-type job.

WHERE DO I SEND MY SUBMISSION?
Here. We only take submissions in digital form. We don't have the time to spend scanning your art in for you, or typing everything you wrote on paper.

INSTEAD OF A SUBMISSION, CAN I SEND A PITCH? LIKE, A BRIEF PARAGRAPH DESCRIBING MY IDEA?
We're not fans of the pitch system. A good pitch tells us nothing about your writing skill or the quality of what'll be produced. Hollywood works on the pitch system and that's why so many movies blow. No pitches will be accepted -- only finished work.

HOW SOON WILL I KNOW IF YOU LIKED WHAT I SENT?
The wait time varies, but keep in mind you're being compared with a lot of other submissions, and we can't make a fair judgment until we see them all.

I'M NOT SURE IF MY SUBMISSION GOT TO YOU OR NOT!
If, for whatever reason, you're concerned that your E-mail somehow never got sent across the Web (like, say, the connection timed out midway or something), the best thing to do is send it again. No, we won't find this annoying....at least, not NEARLY as annoying as the alternative, which is to get endless "Did you get it? Did you get it yet?" E-mails.

Use caution, though. Sending it 25 times in a row and spamming up our inbox will rouse our ire and get all of them deleted.

If you tried sending it multiple times and you're still having problems, contact us through the main E-mail address: webmaster (at) bangpdx dot com. This is also the address to use if you have a question that wasn't covered here.
